King Salmon
Fall Salmon Season: (September, October):
The Pere Marquette River is one of the first rivers to get early season King Salmon. August and September is the prime time to find the fresh run giants eager to crush a stripped streamer. Fishing crankbaits like thundersticks or drifting skein spawn will also take these giants of the river if you want to throw conventional tackle.
The Big Manistee River and Muskegon also get big numbers of Kings and Coho Salmon in September/October usually a bit later than the Pere Marquette. The Manistee River also receives a large amount of coho salmon during the fall months. We fish Pere Marquette first and then then target other rivers if the needed.
I follow the Michigan salmon run closely and will make sure we are on the water where we have the best odds for the most hook ups.
